Abstract

MXenes are a new class of emerging 2D nanoparticles that offer a variety of new applications, this is supported by their various properties which have been proven to be some of the best amongst 2D nanoparticles. With the ability to become an alternative or possibly even rival Graphenes. With the general formula of Mn + 1Xn MXenes are made of transition metal carbides and nitrides. Its many properties include high electrical conductivity, and chemical properties such as oxidation, ionic conductivity, and hydrophilic. These properties set MXenes apart from other 2D nanomaterials and make them an attractive prospect for various purposes. MXenes have applications ranging from medicine to batteries and nanotechnology. This review aims to explore the application of MXenes as chemical noses and sensors and their recent advances, we will also focus on the various properties that allow it to function as a chemical nose for example its high surface area. MXenes have a high potential to dominate several of the fields that it has been found to have uses in and can become an extremely versatile substance in the future.
