A Review About Nanolubrication: Advantages and Mechanisms

Abstract

Lubrication has become a crucial topic since the invention of the internal combustion engine. Lubricants protect the tribopairs engines and reduce energy consumption by mitigating friction. An emerging chemical component- nanoparticles - have started to become prevalent in lubrication formulations as additives. Nanoparticles are believed to have some unparalleled properties compared to traditional additives, such as physicochemical versatility and robustness. Despite a great deal of experimental research on nanoparticles as lubricating oil additives, many aspects of their tribological behavior are yet to be fully understood. This work will review the advantages and mechanisms of nanolubricants, and discuss the prospect of nanoadditives.
